About

PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT Megan Carter, R.A.

My path to becoming a licensed architect was built on a unique foundation of storytelling and the natural world. Long before earning my Master of Architecture, I was a five-year-old sketching floor plans and a camper building three-dimensional structures out of rocks and firewood.

This early fascination evolved into a B.A. in English Literature and a minor in Geology—two disciplines that profoundly shape my work today at CB Architecture + Design. For me, architecture is a form of storytelling, where every room and transition serves as a vital part of a larger narrative. Grounded by my studies in geology, I maintain a deep appreciation for materials, structure, and environmental responsiveness.

The ultimate reward is translating these narratives from paper into physical space. I find my greatest inspiration on an active construction site, experiencing the thrill of watching carefully developed concepts become a reality. This deep appreciation for the building process ensures that my designs are not just beautifully imagined, but rigorously executed.

Beyond the Studio
As a fourth-generation Northern Californian, my deep roots in the region shape both my work and my life outside the office. I love spending time with my family, especially in or near the water, which I find endlessly calming and grounding. Dedicated to my community, I volunteer with the local Cub Scouts and serve as the Buildings and Grounds Chair for our local swim and tennis club, lending my architectural expertise to the neighborhood. True to my profession, the design work never truly stops; I am constantly reimagining and thoughtfully updating my childhood home, where I now live with my own family.

ARCHITECT Jenny Carson, R.A.

As a kid I LOVED Legos.  I also rearranged the furniture in my room by drawing my room to scale and moving scaled cutouts of the furniture around the drawing to come up with new arrangements.  Later I started drawing plans of my future homes, but I took a roundabout path from there to architecture, taking many art classes in high school and studying photography in undergrad.  Not wanting to pursue photography as a profession, my studies continued with a Masters of Architecture at CCA in San Francisco.  I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the world through the lens of Architecture.

My path has continued to take detours to engineering and technical aspects of making and building in art and industry.  This has definitely informed my strength in practicing architecture of materials and construction details.  Ironic that I come from an art background but bring to CB Architecture and Design a love of the technical side of design.

Beyond the Studio

When I’m not home with my husband and two cats, I’m practicing yoga, hiking, camping, traveling, and dragging my grown step-kids to art shows and on architectural tours.  I volunteer with a few artist friends in the community, helping their visions come to fruition.  As with the practice of architecture, that’s where the magic happens.
